President Prabowo Issues Series of Directives for 2026 Eid Exodus
President Prabowo Subianto has issued a series of directives to government officials for the upcoming 2026 Eid holiday period, aiming to ensure that Indonesian citizens can return to their home villages safely and without disruption.
Through instructions to various ministers and agency heads, Prabowo has requested the immediate implementation of several measures. These range from offering transport discounts to providing support from state institutions, to enhancing service quality at various key transit points during the exodus period.
Addressing the Ministry of Transportation specifically, Prabowo requested that citizens receive discounts across various transport modes. “Ensuring that discount price policies are implemented as effectively as possible, including discounts on airline tickets, trains, ships and toll roads,” Prabowo stated during a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Prabowo noted that discounts would help citizens access transport at more affordable rates. Additionally, the discounts would reduce household expenditure burdens ahead of the religious holiday.
Furthermore, Prabowo instructed the Indonesian National Armed Forces to mobilise their available vehicles to facilitate smooth traffic flow during the exodus. “The Navy and Army have ships, perhaps these could be made available and coordinated with the Transportation Minister,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo also requested that the Indonesian National Police utilise their assets to assist travellers whilst providing security along transport routes throughout the 2026 Eid period.
The President instructed that services at rest areas, ports, airports and all stations be enhanced. “Ensure there are no uncontrollable queues. Fuel availability, electricity supply and internet connectivity should be kept stable,” he stated.
Prabowo specifically directed the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to continually report on fuel availability during the Eid period. This is particularly important, he noted, as Indonesia is currently experiencing fuel price and supply volatility due to conflict in the Middle East.
Additionally, Prabowo instructed Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana to more aggressively promote domestic tourism destinations. During the Eid period, Prabowo requested that Widiyanti spend more time in the field. “I am asking the Tourism Minister to actively visit tourist sites and promote all aspects of tourism throughout the country,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo expressed his desire to make this, his second Eid as president, run smoothly. “We will ensure that this year’s exodus runs well, safely, comfortably and joyfully. Prioritise road safety and prepare all aspects thoroughly,” he concluded.
