President Prabowo Instructs Danantara to Support Jakarta's Development

President Prabowo Subianto has officially requested the Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara) Investment Agency to actively participate in supporting the development of Jakarta. This instruction was issued by the President in response to aspirations expressed by the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, regarding the future development of the capital.

During the inauguration of the Jakarta LRT Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route on Wednesday (16/9), President Prabowo emphasised that supporting Jakarta is a matter of national interest. He noted that Jakarta holds a strategic position that transcends its regional administrative boundaries.

“There were some hopes expressed by the Governor for Danantara to assist; I believe Danantara is obliged to help,” said Prabowo. He added that Jakarta does not belong solely to its residents, but to the entire Indonesian nation.

In addition to Danantara’s involvement, President Prabowo introduced a major plan to improve urban environmental conditions through the ‘Indonesia ASRI’ movement. The movement is an acronym for Aman, Sehat, Resik, and Indah (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful).

This programme is designed to drive comprehensive changes in urban environmental conditions, covering several key points. The President plans to convene members of regional parliaments (DPRD) from across Indonesia within the next one to two weeks to launch this movement nationally. Although starting in Jakarta, the Indonesia ASRI programme is targeted to reach all cities in Indonesia as part of a gradual transformation.

One specific initiative encouraged by the President is the implementation of vertical gardens on large buildings. Prabowo emphasised the importance of collaboration between the private sector and the government in realising this vision of green cities.

“All large buildings should, if possible, have vertical gardens. If this can be an initiative from building owners, great; if they face difficulties, the local government will intervene. If local governments feel the need, the central government will step in,” the President asserted.

This step is expected to act as a catalyst for transforming the face of Indonesian cities to become more livable and sustainable, in line with the national inclusive development agenda.
