President Prabowo Subianto travelled to Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday (16/5) to inaugurate the Marsinah Museum and Rest House. The construction of this museum aims to document the historical traces, life story, and heroic struggles of the labour activist in the fight for justice in Indonesia.

Based on an online broadcast followed from Jakarta, the President arrived at the location at approximately 08.58 WIB. Using the presidential car, the Garuda Maung, the President was greeted enthusiastically by local residents who had crowded the event area since early morning.

Upon arrival, President Prabowo was welcomed by the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea. During this working visit, the President was accompanied by the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg), Prasetyo Hadi, and the National Police Chief, General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The inauguration of the museum, located in Nglundo Village, Nganjuk, fulfils President Prabowo’s promise. Previously, he had expressed his commitment to attend the inauguration when he attended the peak of the International Labour Day commemoration at Monas, Jakarta, on May 1, 2026.

On that occasion, President Prabowo emphasised the importance of honouring Marsinah, who has now been appointed by the government as a National Hero. The inauguration of the museum is an integral part of the state’s efforts to appreciate the struggles of the labour movement in the country.

In line with the central government’s vision, the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, previously stated that the construction of the Marsinah National Hero Museum has a strategic function as an educational facility for the younger generation.

Khofifah emphasised that this museum is not just a physical building, but a “space of values” to pass on the spirit of Marsinah’s exemplary behaviour.

“What we are building is not just a building, but also a space of values. This is where the younger generation can learn about the courage, honesty, and commitment to justice that Marsinah exemplified,” said Khofifah in a statement some time ago.

With the inauguration of this museum, it is hoped that the values of humanity and justice fought for by Marsinah will continue to live on and become an inspiration for better labour development in the future.
