JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 218 Bailey bridges, Armco bridges, and pioneer bridges throughout Indonesia on Monday, 9 March 2026. The inaugurated bridges include those constructed in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra following devastating flash floods and landslides that occurred in late 2025.

“In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, on this afternoon of Monday, 9 March 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate 77 Bailey Bridges, 59 Armco Bridges, and 82 Pioneer Bridges,” said Prabowo during the virtual inauguration ceremony, centralised in Aceh on Monday.

The former Defence Minister stated that bridge construction represents the genuine commitment of all Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) personnel and officials in disaster-affected regions who were specially assigned to undertake this construction work.

President Prabowo established several task forces, including the Bridge Task Force for Disaster Impact Management in Sumatra, commanded directly by Indonesian Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak.

“The Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force has worked tirelessly, and particularly the Bridge Task Force is inaugurating 218 bridges today. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, as President of the Republic of Indonesia and as an individual, I express my gratitude,” said Maruli.

“I have established this task force and assigned you, the Chief of Staff of the Army, to lead directly. A four-star general leading the construction of bridges, not only large bridges but also small ones,” Prabowo added.

He emphasised that the government does not abandon its citizens in suffering and hardship. “When our fellow citizens experience difficulties, the entire nation shares that burden and mobilises completely. The disasters affecting several of our regions—North Sumatra, Aceh, West Sumatra, and also other provinces such as South Kalimantan, Java, and various parts of the archipelago—demonstrate our unified response,” Prabowo stated.
