President Prabowo Inaugurates 1,177 Junior Officers, Warns of Corruption and Gambling Dangers
President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 1,177 Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri) Junior Officers during the 2026 Prasetya Perwira (Praspa) Ceremony at the Merdeka Palace courtyard in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/7/2026). The moment demonstrated the close camaraderie between the state leadership and the heads of national security. During the ceremony, President Prabowo was accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Both were flanked by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, both on the main stage and while interacting with other state officials after the inauguration procession. In his address, President Prabowo stressed the importance of synergy between the TNI and Polri as the main foundation for maintaining and strengthening national unity. He described the two institutions as vital for Indonesia’s existence. ‘Ladies and gentlemen, the TNI and Polri are two institutions vital to the survival of the state,’ Prabowo asserted before the junior officers. The President reminded the officers not to fall into the trap of narrow corps loyalty. According to him, the TNI and Polri must continue to work together professionally and robustly to protect all Indonesian people without sectoral barriers. Furthermore, Prabowo issued a stern warning regarding integrity. He asked the officers to avoid all forms of abuse of office, including corrupt practices, misappropriation, and involvement in drugs and gambling. ‘Integrity is an officer’s honour. Never abuse your position, never be tempted by corruption or misappropriation. Never compromise with drugs, gambling, or other legal violations,’ the President stated. Concluding his directive, the President affirmed that betraying the people is the point at which an officer loses their honour. The 2026 Praspa ceremony served as a symbol of leadership regeneration within the TNI and Polri, expected to bring a new spirit to law enforcement and national defence.
