President Prabowo Subianto has symbolically inaugurated the construction of 1,151 kilometres of regional roads across all 37 provinces of Indonesia, during a ceremony in Sampang Regency, East Java, on Tuesday. The programme is part of the government’s commitment to equitable national development. Speaking via a live broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta, President Prabowo highlighted the strategic role of regional roads as the lifeblood of the people’s economy. He expressed pride and satisfaction at the completion of the infrastructure, which is expected to strengthen inter-regional connectivity and facilitate the distribution of goods and services. The President stressed that Indonesia’s vast territory and diverse geography make adequate road infrastructure essential for reducing logistics costs and boosting national economic competitiveness. He noted that transport costs will decrease when production centres and residential areas are well connected through proper road networks. Prabowo also reaffirmed the government’s determination to ensure no region is left behind due to limited transport access. ‘We are determined that no region should be left behind simply because of limited access; we must reduce logistics costs for all our people and our economy,’ he stated. He added that the success of development programmes depends not only on production but also on the smooth operation of distribution networks. The President called on local governments to maintain and utilise the infrastructure that has been built to maximise benefits for the community. He assured that the government will continue to increase infrastructure development budgets for regions and villages in the coming years.
