President Prabowo held a state-level Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday evening (10 March). Religious leaders and cabinet ministers attended the event, with guests beginning to arrive from 18:50 WIB onwards.

Those present included Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Villages Yandri Susanto, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Muhaimin Iskandar, and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Maritime Affairs Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

Among the religious figures in attendance was preacher Quraish Shihab, accompanied by his wife Fatmawati Assegaf, who indicated he would deliver a spiritual address at the commemoration. “You will hear it. It will be about peace, so the world can have peace,” he said.

Also present were PBNU (Nahdlatul Ulama) Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, House of Regional Representatives Speaker Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Food and Drug Administration Chief Taruna Ikrar, and Head of BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency) Arif Satria. The government also invited 30 orphans from care facilities to participate.

Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar announced that this year’s Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration carried the theme “The Qur’an, Ecological Trust, and the Path to World Peace.” He stated that the values contained in the Qur’an provide moral guidance for humanity to maintain environmental balance whilst building social harmony in the global community.

“The Qur’an does not only speak about the relationship between humans and God, but also about the relationship between humans and nature, and between humans themselves. Therefore, the message of ecological trust and world peace has become very important for us to emphasise,” said Nasaruddin on Monday (9 March).
