President Prabowo: German President's Visit Crucial Amidst Global Uncertainty

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the visit of President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier holds significant importance for Indonesia, as the visit takes place amidst conditions of global uncertainty. “This is a great honour for us. This state visit has a very important meaning for Indonesia because it also demonstrates the excellent relations between Germany and Indonesia,” said Prabowo at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday. “This visit is also an important momentum amidst global dynamics that are increasingly full of uncertainty,” he asserted. Another important aspect is that Steinmeier’s visit is seen as strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and Germany. Several key areas will be further strengthened and continued by the two nations. “The strengthening and sustainability of the Indonesia-Germany partnership is certainly a priority,” said Prabowo. In addition, Steinmeier’s visit kicks off the commemoration of 75 years of Indonesia-Germany bilateral relations in the upcoming year of 2027. Topics ranging from investment to energy security were discussed by Prabowo and Steinmeier at the Palace. “At today’s meeting, we discussed strengthening the Indonesia-Germany partnership, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, energy transition, energy security, education, and employment,” said Prabowo. Together with Steinmeier, Prabowo confirmed their agreement to continue increasing mutually beneficial trade and investment volumes. Prabowo stressed the importance of trade cooperation with the European Union, where Germany plays a vital role. “I emphasised the importance of Indonesia’s relations with Europe and we hope the Indonesia-European Union CEPA agreement can reach substantive conclusions. We hope Germany will continue to play an active role in the process of finalising the internal agreement in Europe so that it can immediately provide concrete benefits for the business communities in both countries,” he continued.
