Jakarta — Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono officially conveyed a statement of condolences from the Government of Indonesia following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an attack by the United States and Israel. The letter was delivered by Sugiono to Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, during their meeting in Jakarta.
‘I am conveying the letter from President Prabowo to President Masoud Pezeshkian to express Indonesia’s deepest condolences on the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader,’ the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Sugiono and Ambassador Boroujerdi discussed the regional escalation in the Middle East resulting from the US and Israel attack on Iran, which prompted Tehran to retaliate at several points in the Persian Gulf. In the same exchange, Sugiono emphasised the importance of respecting international law and the United Nations Charter, and urged steps toward diplomacy to ease the escalation.
