President Prabowo Establishes Seven New District Prosecutors' Offices via Perpres 40/2026
President Prabowo Subianto has officially established seven new District Prosecutors’ Offices (Kejari) through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 40 of 2026. This strategic step was taken to strengthen the prosecutorial institution while simultaneously improving the accessibility of legal services for the public in various remote regions.
The operational and working procedures for the new Kejari offices will be further determined by the Attorney General. The establishment of a Kejari in areas such as Raja Ampat is of particular note, given the geographical challenges of archipelagic regions. The presence of a definitive office is expected to optimise the effectiveness of prosecutorial duties in providing legal certainty.
In addition to enhancing the quality of public services, the formation of these new work units is expected to strengthen coordination synergy between the prosecutor’s office, local governments, and other law enforcement officials. Regarding operational aspects, Perpres Number 40 of 2026 stipulates that all funding required for the establishment, development, and execution of duties of the seven new Kejari offices will be sourced from the budget of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia.
