President Prabowo: Electric Motorcycles Can Cut Fuel Costs by Up to 70%

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the use of electric vehicles can provide significant efficiency for the public, particularly in terms of fuel expenditure. He noted that savings could reach 50 to 70 per cent compared to using petrol-fuelled motorcycles. This was conveyed by Prabowo during the inauguration of the National Electric Motorcycle Ecosystem (Molinas) in Cikarang, West Java, on Thursday, 13 August 2026. According to Prabowo, the adoption of electric vehicles is a strategic step to reduce Indonesia’s dependence on energy supplies from abroad. “We calculated earlier, using an electric motorcycle compared to a petrol one saves at least 50 per cent. Your daily fuel expenses can be cut by a minimum of 50 per cent, possibly even up to 70 per cent,” he explained. The President highlighted that Indonesia currently spends a substantial amount of foreign exchange on fuel imports, amounting to approximately USD 28-30 billion annually. He stressed that the country should not continue to rely on external energy sources. Prabowo also noted that the B50 biodiesel policy has helped reduce dependence on diesel imports. He expressed hope that the national electric vehicle industry would grow significantly, with mass production targeted by 2028 at the latest. “We hope that by 2028 at the latest, we will have mass production,” he said, adding that the courage to take initiative and face risks is essential for building a strong national industry.
