President Prabowo: Downstreaming Must Be Based on the Best Technology
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto has stressed the importance of developing national downstreaming projects that are adaptive to technological developments and oriented towards the interests of the people. This was conveyed during the groundbreaking of the national downstreaming project phase II at Refinery Unit IV in Cilacap, Central Java Province, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.
In his speech, the President emphasised that every strategic project must be continuously evaluated objectively and scientifically, in line with the rapid progress of technology.
“I ask that we be objective and scientific. We calculate mathematically. If for this project, even though we have announced it and conducted a feasibility study starting a year ago, six months ago, if today there is a technological development, we can get better technology, cheaper technology, producing something more beneficial for the people, we must dare to change the plan,” President Prabowo stated firmly in an official statement on Thursday (30/4/2026).
The President also instructed the Downstreaming Task Force and the Nusantara Future Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) to continuously review the best technology options, prioritising efficiency and maximum benefits for society.
“Keep reviewing the technology, look at it. Mathematically, mathematically, mathematically. No other interests. The most efficient one, beneficial for the people, that is what must be implemented,” he continued.
Furthermore, President Prabowo expressed great optimism about Indonesia’s future. He called on all elements of the nation to unite and maintain the direction of national development, including through strengthening downstreaming as a pillar of economic independence.
“We must become a giant that does not sleep. We must become a giant that wakes up. And we will wake up. We will become a great nation,” he said.
President Prabowo also emphasised the importance of unity amid diversity as the nation’s main strength. According to him, differences must become a richness that strengthens, not divides.
“Differences are good, differences are wealth, do not let differences become barriers. We cover each other’s shortcomings. We remind each other of mistakes. We correct negligence immediately. All for the good of the nation,” the President stated.
Concluding his speech, President Prabowo also reminded that stability and peace are important foundations for the nation’s progress, amid challenging global dynamics.
“Peace is very expensive. We safeguard our nation,” the President concluded.
Through an approach based on the best technology and the interests of the people, Indonesia’s downstreaming is directed to become a new efficient, modern, and sovereign growth engine towards Indonesia as a major world economic power.
