President Prabowo: Downstreaming is the Key to the Nation's Revival and Prosperity

President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has affirmed that industrial downstreaming is one of the paths towards the revival of the Indonesian nation and an effort to strengthen the national economic foundation.

This affirmation was delivered by Prabowo in his speech at the groundbreaking of the second phase of the national downstreaming project at Refinery Unit IV in Cilacap, Central Java, on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

“What we are doing in many sectors in the first year of the government I lead is to strengthen the foundations that have been built by previous presidents, from the first president to the seventh president. I emphasise that the revival of a nation or nation building, as well as the success of a nation, is a long and not easy journey,” he said in a press release received by Kompas.com on Thursday (30/4/2026).

Prabowo also reminded that Indonesia’s journey is inseparable from global dynamics that affect the national economic condition.

“I believe, based on lessons from the history of world development, the only way to the revival of a nation is nationalism, love for the homeland, and national unity,” he said.

Furthermore, Prabowo highlighted the long history of exploitation of Indonesia’s natural resources (SDA) by foreign powers that came to the Archipelago because of its natural wealth.

In that context, Prabowo stressed that the nation’s courage to manage natural resources independently is the key to achieving prosperity. Without such courage, a nation will continue to lag behind.

“A nation that is given extraordinary gifts but is unable and unwilling to manage them will remain poor. One form of courage is the nation’s ability to master and process the resources in its own country,” said Prabowo.

“Downstreaming is the main path for us to achieve prosperity,” he asserted.

Through downstreaming, the government is pushing Indonesia towards a future as a global economic power based on resources, supported by industry, and rooted in national unity.
