President Prabowo Donates 70,000 Qur'ans to Disaster-Affected Communities in Sumatra
President Prabowo Subianto has endowed 70,000 copies of the Qur’an to communities affected by disasters in Sumatra, particularly in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra provinces.
The distribution of the Qur’an donation was carried out symbolically by Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian, who also serves as Head of the Post-Disaster Acceleration Task Force for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) in Sumatra. Karnavian directly delivered the assistance to affected communities during visits to the region.
One distribution took place when Karnavian closed the Aceh Khanduri Nuzulul Quran Ramadan Festival 2026 event held at the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque complex in Banda Aceh on Friday, 6 March 2026. On this occasion, Karnavian distributed approximately 5,620 Qur’an copies from the President’s endowment. In addition to the Qur’ans, communities also received prayer equipment including headscarves (mukena), sarongs, and prayer mats.
“There are 70,000 Qur’an copies from the President’s endowment, but today we are distributing 5,000 here. There are also prayer mats, sarongs, and headscarves. Hopefully these will be beneficial for everyone,” said Karnavian.
Distribution to Multiple Districts
Beyond Banda Aceh, the prayer equipment has been distributed to disaster-affected communities in several other districts and cities across Aceh. Districts that have received assistance include Aceh Tamiang with 600 Qur’an copies, North Aceh with 300, East Aceh with 200, Lhokseumawe with 500, Bireuen with 100, and Pidie Jaya with 750 copies.
The remaining Qur’an donations will be distributed to other areas including Central Aceh, Southeast Aceh, Pidie, Gayo Lues, Bener Meriah, and Nagan Raya. Additionally, assistance will be provided to several districts in West Sumatra and North Sumatra provinces.
“Please ensure these are given to those who are eligible,” Karnavian stated.
Logistical Assistance for Disaster Victims
Beyond religious materials, Karnavian also distributed various other necessities to disaster-affected communities, including thousands of clothing items, blankets, and other apparel. Some of this assistance comes from third-party support participating in recovery efforts in the affected regions.
