Palu - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has donated 14 sacrificial cows to Central Sulawesi Province for slaughter during the Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah/2026 celebration.

“Thirteen sacrificial animals are distributed to 13 regencies/cities, while one is given to the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government to be channelled to the community,” said Dandy Alfita, Head of the Animal Health and Public Veterinary Health Division of the Central Sulawesi Plantation and Livestock Service, in Palu on Monday.

She explained that the distribution of sacrificial animals is part of the central government’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the sacrificial worship, while also sharing with communities in various regions, as has been done in previous years.

Specifically, the sacrificial cow scheduled to be slaughtered at the Great Mosque of Baitul Khairaat in Palu City weighs 922 kilograms and is the heaviest among the president’s donated sacrificial animals in Central Sulawesi.

“The cow, approximately three years old, was selected after a rigorous selection process conducted by the local government together with the technical team,” she said.

She stated that the sacrificial animal is a Simmental breed cow named “Si Kentung” from a local farm in Kabonena Ward, Ulujadi Subdistrict, Palu City.

In the screening process, several cows from various regencies/cities in Central Sulawesi were submitted as candidates for the president’s sacrificial animal donation, but “Si Kentung” was deemed to best meet the criteria, particularly in terms of body weight reaching 922 kilograms, making it the heaviest compared to the others.

She explained that the selection process not only focused on physical size but also considered overall health aspects.

“We have obtained one cow that is the choice with the heaviest weight. Health identification, weighing, and deworming have been carried out to ensure the internal organs remain healthy,” said Dandy.

She added that a comprehensive health examination was conducted to ensure the cow is free from contagious animal diseases, including foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and internal parasitic disorders.

The veterinary team has also administered deworming medication as a preventive measure to maintain meat quality and internal organ health ahead of the slaughter day.

In addition, the farm’s location was considered in the selection process; the farm in Kabonena Ward was deemed to meet maintenance standards, including pen cleanliness, feed quality, and good care systems.

“For the distribution of the 922-kilogram sacrificial animal, we are coordinating between the local government and the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government’s Social Welfare Bureau to ensure smooth and targeted implementation,” she said.

She further added that her side continues to conduct regular monitoring of the sacrificial animals’ condition, both in terms of health and distribution readiness, as a step to ensure the animals are in prime condition when handed over to the community.
