President Prabowo Distributes 72.72 Billion Rupiah in Meugang Meat Assistance to Meet Aceh Communities' Requests

President Prabowo Subianto has responded to Aceh’s communities’ request to maintain the meugang tradition whilst supporting those affected by flooding ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026. The request was conveyed through Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, who also heads the Task Force for Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction following the Sumatran disaster.

The community aspired to continue this distinctive Acehnese tradition despite post-disaster circumstances. The government responded to demonstrate the state’s presence and solidarity with affected communities.

Meugang is a local tradition of Acehnese society performed to welcome the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr celebrations. It involves the ritual slaughter and sharing of cattle meat.

Previously, Prabowo, through Tito, had distributed 72.72 billion rupiah for purchasing meugang cattle at the beginning of Ramadan for disaster-affected communities. This assistance enabled residents to experience the atmosphere of welcoming the holy month with shared togetherness.

On this occasion, Prabowo has again channelled assistance for meugang celebrations across various regions in Aceh.

“The funds have been transferred to district and city authorities in Aceh Province for payment of meugang cattle,” Prabowo stated in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

Based on data received, the total budget distributed amounts to 72.75 billion rupiah for 1,455 affected villages spread across 19 districts and cities.
