President Prabowo Dispatches Teams to Four Nations to Study Hunger Eradication Strategies

President Prabowo Subianto has ordered his officials to send special teams to four countries: India, Brazil, China and Vietnam. The move is intended to study effective strategies for eradicating hunger amid the threat of a global food crisis.

The instruction was delivered by the President during a plenary cabinet session held at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (20 July). Prabowo stressed that the government must not be ashamed to learn from countries that have proven successful in significantly reducing hunger.

“I ask that we learn, we learn from other countries, don’t be ashamed to learn. Send a team to India, send a team to Brazil, send a team to China, send a team to Vietnam. Learn how they eliminated hunger,” Prabowo said in his address.

The President emphasised that the government’s commitment to helping the poor will continue despite facing various criticisms. For him, the government’s primary focus is improving the people’s welfare and eradicating illegal practices that harm the state.

He stressed that serious attention must be given to fraud and smuggling. According to him, it is these practices that damage the national economy, not the government’s efforts to provide social assistance or welfare programmes for the lower classes of society.

The target of a hunger-free Indonesia (zero hunger), Prabowo continued, is a mission aligned with the sustainable development goals, or the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He reminded that the UN has long warned of the threat of food, energy and water crises in the future.

Beyond the eradication of poverty (no poverty) and hunger, the President also highlighted the importance of achieving the other SDGs. This includes healthy lives, quality education, gender equality, and access to clean water and affordable energy for all Indonesians.

Through the dispatch of these teams abroad, the government hopes to adopt tactical policies that can be swiftly implemented at home to ensure that no citizen suffers from food shortages.
