President Prabowo Subianto has instructed his administration to send special teams to India, Brazil, China, and Vietnam to study effective strategies for eradicating hunger. The directive was delivered during a Full Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta, where Prabowo emphasised that the government should not be ashamed to learn from countries that have successfully reduced hunger rates significantly. “I ask you to learn, we learn from other countries, do not be ashamed to learn. Send a team to India, send a team to Brazil, send a team to China, send a team to Vietnam. Learn how they eliminated hunger,” Prabowo stated in his briefing. The President stressed that the government’s commitment to assisting the poor will continue despite facing criticism. He asserted that the focus must remain on improving public welfare and eradicating illegal practices that harm the national economy, rather than questioning social assistance or welfare programmes for the lower class. Prabowo noted that the target of zero hunger is in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), recalling that the UN has long warned of future food, energy, and water crises. Beyond poverty and hunger eradication, the President also highlighted the importance of achieving other SDGs, including healthy lives, quality education, gender equality, and access to clean water and affordable energy for all Indonesians. By sending teams abroad, the government hopes to adopt tactical policies that can be swiftly implemented domestically to ensure no citizen suffers from food shortages.
