President Prabowo Challenges Central Java to Become Zero-Waste Province by 2028
President Prabowo Subianto has challenged the Central Java provincial government to achieve zero-waste status by the end of 2028. The provincial government accepted the challenge during the presidential visit. This commitment is backed by data showing 13 regencies in Central Java have followed the success of Banyumas’ TPST BLE facility. “Mayors’ pledge to be zero-waste by 2028? Central Java? Deal? Okay, deal,” President Prabowo said during his visit to the Integrated Environmental and Educational Waste Processing Facility (TPST BLE) in Banyumas on Tuesday (28 May 2026). The Banyumas waste processing facility has pioneered an integrated circular economy system. The TPST BLE facility has significantly reduced the volume of waste sent to final disposal sites. The president stressed that the central government will provide full support through direct aid to develop the facility, aiming to upgrade existing infrastructure to meet the 2028 zero-waste target. Central government support also includes developing sorting machine technology to sharply increase the production capacity of processed waste products. “We will push forward and I will provide direct assistance to develop, improve, and make it more effective,” said the Head of State. Earlier, the president inspected the TPST BLE facility in Wlahar Wetan village, Banyumas, which processes 75 tonnes of waste daily using automated sorting technology. He hopes this technological advancement will accelerate independent environmental problem-solving. National waste management efforts are also being prioritised to improve living standards and public health across Indonesia.
