President Prabowo Cancels Visit to Russia, Here's the Reason from the Palace
State Secretary Minister and Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi has explained the reason President Prabowo Subianto cancelled his attendance at the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan, Russia, on 17–18 June 2026. Prasetyo stated that one consideration was that President Prabowo had recently met Russian President Vladimir Putin, specifically in Moscow on 13 April 2026. Furthermore, he had also met several leaders of ASEAN member countries during the ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on 7–8 May 2026. “The President has his own considerations because there are still many things he wants to focus on resolving domestically,” said the State Secretary Minister in response to journalists’ questions when met at the main gate area of Prabowo’s private residence, Padepokan Garuda Yaksa, in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Wednesday. “Secondly, with the high-level leaders of ASEAN countries some time ago, he also attended the summit in the Philippines, and many things were discussed, including bilateral relations with friendly countries, especially Russia. Some time ago, he also met with President Putin and discussed many things,” Prasetyo continued.
