President Prabowo Cancels Attendance at Russia-ASEAN Summit in Kazan
President Prabowo Subianto has cancelled his attendance at the Russia-ASEAN Summit held in Kazan, Russia. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the President had his own reasons for the decision, primarily his desire to focus on resolving domestic matters.
Additionally, Prasetyo noted that President Prabowo had already held discussions with leaders of Southeast Asian nations during the ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on 7-8 May 2026. The President also conducted a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a state visit to Moscow in April.
Prasetyo explained that during those meetings, Prabowo had discussed many issues, and several cooperation commitments are already being followed up on a technical level. The summit, commemorating 35 years of Russia-ASEAN relations, is taking place in Kazan from 17-19 June.
Earlier, on Tuesday, 9 June, Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno had mentioned the possibility of President Prabowo attending the summit, but said they were still awaiting the agenda from the Presidential Secretariat.
