President Prabowo bids farewell to PM Modi at Yogyakarta International Airport

President Prabowo Subianto saw off Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Wednesday afternoon, after Modi completed his visit to Indonesia from 6 to 8 July 2026. From Prambanan Temple in Sleman Regency, the two leaders travelled to the Indonesian Air Force’s Adisutjipto Air Base. At Prambanan, Prabowo and Modi officially launched an Indonesia-India collaboration for the conservation and restoration of Prambanan Temple. From Adisutjipto Air Base, President Prabowo and PM Modi boarded a helicopter and departed for YIA. At the YIA apron, PM Modi disembarked from the presidential Airbus H225M Caracal helicopter with registration number H-2214. President Prabowo had disembarked earlier and immediately boarded the Maung Garuda presidential vehicle. Shortly after stepping off the helicopter, PM Modi got into a vehicle to head to the aircraft. Special troops from the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) jogged alongside the vehicle to escort it. At the end of the blue carpet leading to the aircraft steps, President Prabowo and several ministers awaited PM Modi’s arrival. The two leaders exchanged greetings before embracing and engaging in a brief conversation. PM Modi then approached Foreign Minister Sugiono, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, shaking hands with each of them. A guard of honour ceremony was held to bid farewell to PM Modi in Yogyakarta. President Prabowo accompanied PM Modi along the blue carpet to the foot of the aircraft steps. The two leaders shook hands and spoke briefly once more before PM Modi ascended the steps and entered the aircraft. Before entering, PM Modi pressed his palms together in a gesture of thanks and farewell. Shortly afterwards, the Indian presidential aircraft, Air India One, prepared for take-off. Three Indonesian Air Force F-16 fighter jets performed a low-pass manoeuvre, ready to escort Air India One’s flight through Indonesian airspace. President Prabowo, followed by his ministers, then departed the YIA apron in the Maung Garuda vehicle. PM Modi’s state visit included a tête-à-tête and bilateral meeting at Merdeka Palace, a visit and speech before members of the House of Representatives at the MPR, DPR, DPD building in Senayan, and a meeting with the Indian diaspora at the Jakarta Convention Centre on Tuesday evening. The final agenda was a visit to Prambanan Temple, where the two leaders launched the Indonesia-India collaboration for the conservation and restoration of the temple.
