President Prabowo Attends People's Party for Indonesia's Independence Day at Monas, Sits Alongside Gibran
President Prabowo Subianto attended the People’s Party held to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence at the National Monument (Monas) area in Jakarta on Monday evening, 17 August 2026.
Prabowo arrived at the Monas area at around 7.15 p.m. Western Indonesia Time in a white Maung vehicle. His arrival was greeted enthusiastically by the crowds that filled the event site.
The atmosphere became even more festive when the song “Hari Merdeka” was played to accompany Prabowo’s arrival. Spectators could also be heard cheering as a welcome to the President.
Prabowo then proceeded to the main event area and sat alongside Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who had arrived earlier.
Gibran arrived at the Monas area at around 6.50 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, approximately 25 minutes before Prabowo’s arrival.
The Vice President arrived in a white Maung vehicle. Gibran appeared to be wearing a red shirt as he entered the People’s Party area, which was beginning to fill with members of the public.
After Prabowo arrived, the two sat side by side in the event area. The programme then continued with the singing of the national anthem “Indonesia Raya”.
The presence of the President and Vice President was one of the main moments of the People’s Party, which was held to enliven the commemoration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.
The People’s Party at the Monas area was prepared with various activities for the public to enjoy. A number of activities typical of 17 August celebrations were arranged to enliven the atmosphere.
The programme included traditional 17 August competitions, art performances, a carnival, and a variety of Indonesian culinary offerings.
Members of the public who attended could also enjoy free food provided as part of the celebrations.
In addition to entertainment and culinary offerings, the government prepared a number of other activities for people who came to the Monas area.
These included a drone show, video mapping, and a fireworks display as part of the People’s Party for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.
A children’s play area was also provided so that people of all ages could enjoy the independence celebrations at the Monas area.
Deputy Minister of State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro previously said the government had also prepared a number of prizes for members of the public who took part in the various competitions at the People’s Party.
