President Prabowo Assures Citizens: Economic Census Data Will Not Be Used to Pursue Personal Wealth
President Prabowo has urged all citizens to respond honestly to the ongoing 2026 Economic Census, assuring them that the data collected will not be used to pursue personal wealth or income. Speaking at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Friday (14/8/2026), the President emphasised that the information gathered by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) is vital for crafting accurate economic policies.
“I ask that you not only fill in the census forms, but do so with complete honesty, and encourage everyone to fill them in honestly,” he said during his speech on the Financial Note for the 2027 Draft State Budget.
Prabowo gave a firm guarantee that the census data would not be misused by the government to investigate the personal wealth or income reported by citizens. He explained that the state budget figures are heavily dependent on the nation’s macroeconomic indicators, which in turn rely on the quality of data collected by BPS. The President noted that he had received reports indicating the country has not carried out an economic rebasing—a recalculation of total economic activity—for more than a decade.
