The Presidential Secretariat said in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday night that the president and his limited entourage landed at Haneda Airport at 7:10 p.m. local time.

Upon arrival, he was welcomed by Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii, Chief of Protocol Tadayuki Miyashita, Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, and Indonesia’s defense attaché.

Following the reception, he retired to his hotel for the night.

The Indonesian leader is on a Japan visit at the invitation of Emperor Naruhito. He is scheduled to hold meetings with the monarch, as well as with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

His visit coincides with 68 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Japan, during which both nations have maintained close cooperation across economic, political, and socio-cultural fields.

Earlier today, Indonesia’s Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi told the media in Jakarta that President Prabowo intends to use the visit to explore deeper ties in various sectors, on which Indonesia and Japan have long been partnering.

“Among the fields to be addressed are trade, technology, and education, as well as matters related to forestry and the environment,” he said.

The head of state took off for Japan from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta earlier this morning. Accompanying him during the flight were Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

He previously visited Japan in September last year, when he reviewed the Indonesian Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, though no high-level engagements took place during that trip.
