The Cabinet Plenary Hall at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026, became a stage for honouring the arduous work of Sumatra’s recovery. Before the ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, President Prabowo Subianto specifically commended the performance of the Acceleration Task Force for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) over the past two months.

“Minister of Home Affairs, please convey my appreciation and gratitude to all field personnel who have worked tirelessly,” the President told Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, who also serves as Chair of the Satgas PRR.

The President’s appreciation demonstrates that collaborative work in the disaster zone is beginning to yield tangible results. The Satgas PRR is not an overnight project. Established on 6 January and strengthened by Presidential Decision Number 1/2026, the task force bears a significant mission to restore normal life to Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

The massive floods that struck in late November 2025 left deep wounds. Thousands of residents were displaced, homes were completely destroyed, and critical infrastructure such as bridges and educational facilities were entirely cut off.

To restore the affected regions, all elements of ministries and agencies within the Satgas PRR worked in unified alignment. This synergy made teamwork more structured and directed. This pattern of work, no longer operating independently, has proven effective in reducing bureaucratic obstacles in the field, justifying why progress has received special attention and appreciation from the Head of State.

In the spirit of collaboration, the hard work increasingly shows results. Damaged roads have been repaired. New bridges have been built. Swept-away dwellings have been replaced with temporary housing (huntara) and permanent housing (huntap). All revitalisation stages are carried out alongside sanitation improvements, provision of clean water, and restoration of school access.

Now, the face of the affected regions is beginning to change. Basic infrastructure is gradually becoming functional again, residents’ economic activities are resuming, and children are returning to school. Some displaced persons have gradually occupied temporary housing whilst awaiting completion of permanent housing reconstruction.

Prior appreciation for the Satgas PRR’s work was also conveyed by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya during a press conference on the Disaster Recovery Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force for Sumatra in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.

“The President continues to monitor the development of disaster area recovery and wants all task forces and every relevant minister or official to continuously provide information and regular updates to the public,” he said.

Teddy also conveyed appreciation to all government elements, officials, volunteers, and media personnel who contributed to accelerating the recovery.

“All of this could be achieved quickly thanks to all elements working together, supporting each other, and complementing one another,” he said.
