President Prabowo Appoints Donny Ermawan Taufanto as First Governor of the University of the Republic of Indonesia

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Air Marshal (Ret.) Donny Ermawan Taufanto as the Governor of the University of the Republic of Indonesia at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday. The President also inaugurated Professor Yos Sunitiyoso as the Vice Governor of the university.

Donny previously served as Deputy Minister of Defence. Prior to that, he held the position of Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence. He is a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Academy (AAU) class of 1988 and a recipient of the Adhi Makayasa award. His previous military postings include Commander of the Air Force Command and Staff College (Danseskoau) and Commander of the Second Air Operations Command (Pangkoopsau II) in 2019.

Meanwhile, Yos Sunitiyoso previously served as Director of Downstreaming and Partnerships at the Directorate General of Research and Development within the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).

The inauguration ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, followed by the reading of Presidential Decree Number 80 P of 2026 concerning the appointment of the Governor and Vice Governor of the University of the Republic of Indonesia. President Prabowo then administered the oath of office, which the appointees repeated, pledging loyalty to the 1945 Constitution and a commitment to uphold all laws and regulations with full responsibility. The event concluded with the signing of the official report and a congratulatory session led by President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming.
