President Prabowo Allocates Rp72.75 Billion to Purchase Cattle in Aceh
Jakarta, VIVA – Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has announced that President Prabowo Subianto is providing Rp72.75 billion in assistance to purchase cattle in the Aceh region.
Tito explained that the funds are designated for 19 districts and cities in Aceh, as well as Simeulue.
“We also report that the President is providing assistance totalling Rp72,750,000,000 (Rp72.75 billion) for the purchase of cattle and distribution of meat across 19 districts and cities in Aceh, plus Simeulue — 18 plus Simeulue, because Simeulue was recently hit by an earthquake,” Tito said during a meeting with the Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force for Sumatra at the Parliamentary Complex on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
The former National Police Chief said his office had issued a circular letter directing that the sacrificial cattle be distributed on the same day.
“The cattle purchases have already been carried out and we have issued a circular letter for distribution today, one day before the fasting month begins. The key point is that residents of 3,042 villages must receive their share of beef,” he added.
Tito also disclosed that the number of displaced persons from flash floods and landslides in Sumatra currently stands at 12,944. He noted this figure has decreased significantly from the previous total of more than two million evacuees.
The Head of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra explained that displaced persons remain in the Aceh and North Sumatra regions.
“Across these three provinces, our data shows 1,205 fatalities and 139 persons still missing. The number of displaced persons has fallen from over two million to approximately 12,944 people still living in tents,” Tito said.
He added that several areas in Sumatra were affected by flooding and landslides, encompassing 52 districts and cities, 491 sub-districts, and 4,511 villages.
Furthermore, there has been significant damage to educational facilities, health facilities, bridges, and places of worship.
“Damaged educational facilities, health facilities, bridges that have been damaged or collapsed, places of worship including mosques and churches, roads, other public facilities, and displacement camps,” he said.
Tito confirmed that there are no longer any displaced persons in West Sumatra. However, the province recorded 267 deaths and 70 persons still missing.
