President Pezeshkian: Iran-US Peace MoU Benefits the World
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for peace signed between Iran and the United States (US) provides great benefits for national interests, the West Asian region, and the world. This statement was delivered during a ceremony in Tehran on Saturday (29/8).
Pezeshkian emphasised that the full implementation of the MoU would limit the ability of the US and Israel to instigate chaos, aggression, and insecurity in the region. According to him, the stability resulting from this agreement would pave the way for the development of countries within the region.
In his speech, Pezeshkian stressed the importance of solidarity among Muslim nations to thwart what he termed the “evil plans of the enemy.” He reaffirmed Iran’s position that it never initiates war but remains prepared to offer fierce resistance against any party attempting aggression.
“We do not want war, but we will fight every aggressor firmly. No force can compel a steadfast nation to surrender with all its strength and determination,” Pezuscian stated, as quoted from the official website of the presidential office.
On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi warned of systematic attempts to manipulate global energy markets. Through a social media post on Saturday (29/8), Araghchi noted that such actions aim for the personal profit of certain parties and to prolong the US conflict against Iran.
On the same day, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported the success of a security operation in the Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran. Security forces neutralised a group allegedly affiliated with the US and Israel, killing one member and arresting six others.
Although the MoU was signed on 18 June, the fate of the final negotiations remains shrouded in uncertainty. According to the agreement, both parties were supposed to reach a final resolution within a 60-day period that ended on 17 August.
However, the escalation of tensions that recurred between Tehran and Washington last month has hindered the diplomatic process. To date, there has been no official statement regarding the continuation of the negotiation schedule to permanently end military confrontation in the region.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has called for the unity of Islamic nations against the US and Israel following the escalation of conflict in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Iran continues to close the Strait of Hormuz despite discussing a temporary corridor with Oman, demanding that the US lift blockades and end the war as a condition for reopening.
Furthermore, the United States has launched new sanctions against Iran targeting the aviation sector, gold, and digital assets to isolate Tehran’s economy. Pezeshkian also addressed predictions from certain parties suggesting that Iran could face a situation similar to Venezuela if the government falls due to pressure from enemies.
