President Macron Concerned Over Attack on French Company's Ship in Strait of Hormuz

According to AFP on Wednesday (6/5/2026), Macron stated that attacks on UAE civilian infrastructure and ships near the Strait of Hormuz are “unjustifiable”. “I express deep concern over the ongoing escalation and condemn the unjustifiable attacks on UAE civilian infrastructure and several ships,” he wrote on X after talks with Masoud Pezeshkian. Previously, a ship owned by a French company was targeted in an attack in the Strait of Hormuz. The attack, whose source is unknown, caused damage to the ship and injured several crew members. The incident, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (6/5/2026), was announced by the French shipping company CMA CGM, which said one of its ships was targeted in the strategic waterway affected by the war between the United States (US) and Israel against Iran. The French company reported that the attack occurred on Tuesday (5/5) local time. “The CMA CGM San Antonio was targeted in an attack yesterday while crossing the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in injuries to several crew members and damage to the ship,” stated the CMA CGM shipping company on Wednesday (6/5). The French company added that the injured crew members have been evacuated for medical treatment. The Malta-flagged ship was attacked one day after US President Donald Trump launched what he called “Project Freedom”, a US military operation to escort ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz. In the latest announcement on Tuesday (5/5), Trump said he is temporarily halting Project Freedom in an effort to reach an agreement with Iran to end the war.
