President Instructs Regional Roads to Be Widened to 8 Metres
A number of road sections built through the Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads programme for the 2025 fiscal year were inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto. The inauguration took place on the Kedungdung–Bringkoning road section in Sampang Regency, East Java Province, on Tuesday (23/6/2026).
The IJD programme is implemented based on Presidential Instruction Number 11 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Regional Road Connectivity Improvement to Support Food and Energy Self-Sufficiency. Through this policy, the central government provides support to accelerate the handling of regional roads proposed by local governments, particularly on strategic sections constrained by limited budgets.
President Prabowo Subianto stated that the presence of regional roads is vitally important as the lifeblood of the people’s economy. The cost of transporting agricultural, plantation, fishery products, and various community goods can become cheaper if connectivity between all production centres, distribution centres, and residential areas is well connected.
“We are determined that no region should be left behind simply because of limited access. We must reduce logistics costs for all our people and our economy. Good roads are part of our resilience strategy,” said Prabowo.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said the achievements of the IJD implementation prove the government’s absolute commitment that infrastructure development is no longer centralised but has reached all corners of Indonesia more inclusively, fairly, and evenly. Dody stated that the road infrastructure inaugurated today is a lever for economic growth, a strengthener of national connectivity, and a tangible manifestation of the state’s presence in serving the community down to the regions, in line with the President’s directive that the economy grows from the villages.
“We believe that with sustainable management and close synergy between central and regional governments, the infrastructure inaugurated today will become a lever for the nation’s long-term progress,” he said.
Dody added that in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, the handling of regional roads must consider enabling two four-wheeled vehicles to pass each other, thus road widening is carried out from originally around three metres to approximately eight metres.
