Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has instructed an enhancement of the strategic role of higher education institutions in supporting national development, particularly in spatial and urban planning as well as housing management.

In an official statement received in Jakarta on Monday, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto said that President Prabowo has provided guidance for universities to become more actively involved in the planning and management of urban development in regions.

“So, the President gave instructions on how faculties of planning and architecture in every university can help regional heads, so that spatial planning and urban management in every region, city, or district becomes a practical site for students, a research site for lecturers, thus helping regional heads to manage their cities with the support of local universities, and with that, it is hoped that impactful universities can be realised,” Brian stated.

President Prabowo also directed that the role of universities be expanded to address housing issues that remain a challenge in various regions.

According to Brian, research and studies from higher education institutions are expected to provide concrete and applicable solutions.

“Secondly, the President also gave instructions on how universities can conduct research, studies, and address housing problems. So, of course, the Minister of Housing, Mr Ara, will coordinate with us on the research aspects—what can help facilitate overcoming housing problems,” he said.

Brian stated that this research approach will be comprehensive, including environmental impact analysis.

President Prabowo’s directives also mark a significant shift so that universities no longer just produce graduates, but also become drivers of development.

This approach also encompasses comprehensive environmental studies and ensures that urban and housing development is not only rapid but also sustainable.

Scientific knowledge, research, and innovation are directed straight to address the needs of the people.

President Prabowo said that Indonesia does not lack intelligent people, but what is needed is the courage to take action and solve problems.
