Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said innovation and technology must work together in order to boost national economic growth.

"Innovation and technology can serve as an engine to boost our economic development. We should remember that the pace of economic growth is determined by the quality of the population, capital and ideas," the president said here on Tuesday in his general lecture at the Sepuluh November Technology Institute (ITS) in Surabaya on the occasion of the institute`s 50th aniversary.

The president called on all technology scientists and practitioners to constantly upgrade their expertise in order to support the creation of a more competitive, efficient and productive economy.

President Yudhoyono also asked scientists to pay special attention to the development of creative economy, strategic industries and innovation in Indonesia.

During his visit to ITS, President Yudhoyono also inaugurated ITS`s Robotic Center and opened the National Innovation Summit 2010 in Bandung, West Java, through teleconference.

Accompanying the President on his visit to ITS were First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Malaranggeng and East Javas Governor Soekarwo. (*)
