President highlights achievements for people's welfare at NU Congress
President Prabowo Subianto, attending the opening of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress on Thursday, again emphasised the many achievements his administration has delivered for the people’s welfare over the past two years.
At the 35th NU Congress held in Jombang Regency, East Java, on Thursday, President Prabowo expressed gratitude for the support given by NU and Muhammadiyah during his two years in office.
“In less than two years we have achieved major accomplishments. We have achieved food self-sufficiency and soon we will achieve energy self-sufficiency. God willing, in the near future, we will not need to import too much fuel from anywhere,” said Prabowo.
Acknowledging that many improvements still need to be made in the Free Nutritious Meals programme, Prabowo stressed that the government will make improvements to ensure that beneficiaries in need, including pregnant women, the elderly and children, can continue to receive the meals.
He also mentioned the tens of thousands of Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperatives that will begin operating in the near future, distributing subsidised goods to eligible members of the public.
“Ladies and gentlemen, our achievements are considerable, our challenges are many. The very strong El Niño weather, challenges because we live in an archipelago that is very prosperous, but also full of natural challenges. But our nation is strong and getting stronger,” he said.
Prabowo said the clerics not only safeguard the morals of children but also harmony within and between religious communities, ensuring peace in the villages. They also pray for the nation without asking for anything in return from the state.
“Thank you to all the ulama, both the well-known ones and the village clerics, whose names may never appear on television. But every day they safeguard the morals of our children,” said Prabowo.
