President ensures accident victims in Bekasi train crash receive compensation

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has ensured that all victims of the train accident in Bekasi receive maximum medical treatment as well as compensation guarantees from the government.

“Everything has been handled, and from what I have seen, it has been handled well,” said President Prabowo at Bekasi’s dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional General Hospital on Tuesday, after inspecting the victims of the collision between the electric train and the commuter train.

The President directly visited the condition of the injured victims who were undergoing intensive treatment at the local government-owned hospital.

Based on data from PT KAI at 08:45 WIB, the accident involving the electric train and the commuter train in the Bekasi Timur Station area resulted in 14 people dead and 84 people injured.

Prabowo stated that the condition of the victims is currently being managed by the medical team and most of them have been allowed to return to their respective homes.

In addition to medical treatment, Prabowo emphasised that the government is fully responsible for the rights of the victims through the provision of compensation.

“Yes, there will be everything, the compensation,” said the President briefly in response to questions from the media regarding compensation for the accident victims.

The President conveyed deep condolences on behalf of himself and the government over the disaster that occurred in the Bekasi area.

In addition to focusing on victim recovery, the President has also ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of this train accident.

The President stated that the government plans to accelerate the construction of safety infrastructure at densely populated railway crossing points so that similar incidents do not recur.
