President Prabowo Subianto has made a waqf (Islamic endowment) donation of 70,000 Qur’ans to communities affected by disasters across the Sumatran region, specifically in the provinces of Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra. The symbolic presentation of the Qur’an waqf was conducted by the Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, who serves as Head of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Task Force for Sumatra.

During the ceremony, Tito distributed approximately 5,620 copies of the Qur’an from the President to affected communities, along with other religious items including prayer headscarves (mukena), sarongs, and prayer mats. “There are 70,000 Qur’ans as a waqf from the President, but today we are distributing 5,000 copies here. Additionally, there are prayer mats, sarongs, and headscarves. God willing, these will benefit all of you,” Tito stated during his remarks on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

The distribution occurred during the closure of the Aceh Nuzulul Qur’an Ramadan Festival 2026 held at the Grand Baiturrahman Mosque complex in Banda Aceh on Friday, 6 March.

Beyond Banda Aceh, packages of religious items, including Qur’ans from the President, have been distributed to affected communities across several regencies and municipalities in Aceh Province. Distributions included: Aceh Tamiang received 600 copies, North Aceh 300 copies, East Aceh 200 copies, Lhokseumawe 500 copies, Bireuen 100 copies, and Pidie Jaya 750 copies.

Tito announced that remaining supplies would be provided to communities in Central Aceh, Southeast Aceh, Pidie, Gayo Lues, Bener Meriah, and Nagan Raya, along with additional distributions to Aceh Tamiang, North Aceh, East Aceh, Bireuen, and Pidie Jaya. Further assistance will also be provided to various regencies and municipalities in West Sumatra and North Sumatra provinces. “Please ensure these are given to those entitled to receive them,” Tito stated.

In addition to religious items, Tito also provided other essential supplies including thousands of pieces of clothing, blankets, and garments for disaster-affected communities. These provisions were sourced partly from third parties.
