Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto held a dialogue with fishermen during his inspection of the sorting and packing shelter port at Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih in South Leato, Gorontalo, as part of the government’s efforts to improve fishermen’s welfare through integrated support facilities. According to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat received in Jakarta on Saturday, the President toured the port area and the shelter where fishermen were engaged in sorting fish and spoke directly with those working on the boats. In the dialogue, President Prabowo asked about the fishermen’s sea activities, from the number of crew members to the challenges faced in fishing, including issues with fuel oil. One fisherman, Acon Karim, said he was pleased to speak directly with the Head of State. According to him, President Prabowo shows attention to the daily activities and needs of fishermen. “He asked about the number of crew members. He (the President) asked about fuel oil, whether it’s far or not,” said Acon Karim. The same sentiment was expressed by another fisherman, Brawijaya Kadullah, who appreciated the government’s support through the provision of facilities for fishermen in the Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih area. “Most importantly, thank you very much to our President, Mr Prabowo Subianto, who has provided the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Cooperative facility site,” said Brawijaya. Meanwhile, fisherman Tetin Yuli expressed the community’s joy over the President’s arrival in their region. “Alhamdulillah, the President has arrived here. We, the people here, the community here, are very happy that the President has come here,” said Tetin. The President’s inspection of the fish sorting and packing shelter reaffirms the government’s commitment to building the maritime and fisheries sector from the grassroots level. Through the development of Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih, the government is promoting facilities that support fishermen’s productivity while increasing the added value of coastal communities’ catches.
