President appoints Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development as High-Speed Rail Committee Chair
President Prabowo Subianto has appointed the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Menko IPK), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), as Chair of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail Committee. The appointment is based on Presidential Regulation No. 29 of 2026, which amends the second iteration of Presidential Regulation No. 107 of 2015 concerning the Acceleration of High-Speed Rail Infrastructure and Facilities between Jakarta and Bandung. As stated in Presidential Regulation No. 29 of 2026: ‘This Regulation establishes the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail Committee, hereinafter referred to as the Committee.’ The regulation states that the Committee Chair is the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs serving as Deputy Chair. Members of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail Committee include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Finance, Minister of Transportation, Minister of Investment and Hilirisasi/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency, Head of the State-Owned Enterprise Regulatory Body (BP BUMN), and Head of the National Energy Data Management Agency (Danantara). The regulation also stipulates that the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development oversees the implementation of the high-speed rail infrastructure and facilities between Jakarta and Bandung. Presidential Regulation No. 29 of 2026 was signed by the President on 12 May 2026. In related news, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono stated that the government, along with relevant stakeholders, is currently discussing the financial restructuring plan for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail project, known as ‘Whoosh’. AHY said the discussions align with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive for the state to actively assume responsibility in ensuring the continuity of this national strategic project. AHY emphasised that the government is prioritising the completion of financial restructuring before proceeding to further development stages of the high-speed rail project to other regions.
