The issue of presidential and vice presidential nominations has been widely talked about lately. Some groups have nominated Soeharto as the next president of the republic. While Try Sutrisno, Habibie, Hartono, Wiranto and Harmoko are among the strong candidates for the vice presidency.

Other groups have also channeled their aspirations to the House of Representatives/People's Consultative Assembly (DPR/MPR) concerning their nominees. I, too, wish to channel my own hopes. I would like to nominate Mar'ie Muhammad and Ginandjar Kartasasmita as the next president and vice president respectively. I believe that these two senior officials are the right nominees. We all know of their credibility. Belonging to the 1966 generation, Mar'ie does not talk much but is always successful in his task. He is stubborn and bold. This is evident when he had to liquidate 16 banks recently. In addition he is a devout Moslem.

Ginandjar is a technocrat and close to Soeharto. We also know his real quality as far as his job is concerned. His poverty eradication program works beautifully. Also a devout Moslem, he has a charismatic style of leadership. Both Mar'ie and Ginandjar are indeed right for the top jobs.
