Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto and Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Sanae Takaichi have agreed to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries while promoting active roles in safeguarding global stability and peace, including acting as mediators if necessary.

According to an official statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday, President Prabowo and PM Sanae Takaichi emphasised the importance of collaboration in maintaining regional stability, with President Prabowo stating that Indonesia and Japan share aligned views on efforts to de-escalate conflicts.

“We agree that both Japan and Indonesia will strive hard to convince all parties to de-escalate. And we are ready to act as mediators if necessary and to facilitate de-escalation efforts towards peace,” said the President.

In the meeting at Akasaka Palace in Tokyo today, the President also conveyed that the close relations between Indonesia and Japan serve as a concrete example of collaboration capable of maintaining regional stability.

“We are very concerned about the current situation, and amid this uncertainty, the good cooperative relationship between Indonesia and Japan is an example of collaboration that leads to and ensures stability and peace in our region,” said the President.

Furthermore, President Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Japan are committed to maintaining and enhancing their long-standing close relations, expressing appreciation for Japan’s various supports in Indonesia’s economic development.

“We are very grateful that many of our young people have been given opportunities to study in Japan in all fields, and also many of our workers are allowed to intern in Japan,” said the President.

Earlier, at the beginning of their joint press statement, President Prabowo also expressed appreciation for the warm welcome from the Japanese Government during his official visit. The President also expressed thanks for the opportunity to meet with the Emperor of Japan, and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening the long-standing bilateral relations.

“I am also very grateful; yesterday I was received by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, and once again I reaffirm our commitment to strengthening relations between Japan and Indonesia, which have indeed been running for a long time and very well,” said the President.

Concluding his statement, President Prabowo did not forget to extend an official invitation to PM Takaichi for a return visit to Indonesia.

The meeting marks a new chapter in Indonesia-Japan relations, not only as economic partners but as two strategic powers ready to jointly safeguard peace, stability, and the future of the Indo-Pacific region.
