President Accepts Resignation of Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo

President Prabowo Subianto has accepted the resignation of Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo and will follow up on the matter in accordance with the mechanisms stipulated in the Bank Indonesia Law. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated during a press conference at the Bank Indonesia Governor’s Office in Jakarta on Monday that the government officially received Perry’s resignation letter on Sunday. Prasetyo said President Prabowo accepted the resignation whilst expressing appreciation for Perry’s seven years of service leading the central bank. “Yesterday, we officially received the resignation letter from the Governor of Bank Indonesia addressed to the President, which will then be processed according to the mechanisms and prevailing laws and regulations, particularly referring to the Bank Indonesia Law,” Prasetyo said. He explained that the government will promptly process Perry’s honourable dismissal through the issuance of a Presidential Decree as stipulated by the legislation. Prasetyo added that in accordance with the Bank Indonesia Law, the position of BI Governor will temporarily be held by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti until a definitive governor is appointed. “Going forward, in accordance with the Bank Indonesia Law, the position of BI Governor will automatically be assumed by the Senior Deputy Governor, who will carry out all duties as Acting Governor. It is noted that the Senior Deputy Governor in question is Ms Destry Damayanti,” Prasetyo stated. He further called on the public to remain calm and assured that coordination between the government and Bank Indonesia will continue to safeguard national economic stability. “The government urges all citizens to continue carrying out their duties according to the authority granted by law. BI plays a role in safeguarding our monetary system, while the government, in this case the Ministry of Finance, also carries out its fiscal function, all within close coordination,” he said.
