President Accelerates Economic Reform, Focuses on Improving Investment Climate
President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Prabowo Subianto, has emphasised the government’s commitment to promoting national economic reform and transformation in order to create a more competitive and responsive investment climate.
The statement was delivered by President Prabowo Subianto in the keynote speech at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum held at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday (30/3/2026).
In his speech, Prabowo stressed that close and mutually beneficial economic relations form an important foundation for stability and peace, especially in an increasingly interconnected world.
“That is my belief. If there is real partnership between the Japanese economy, Japanese industry, and Indonesia, both our nations will benefit. When both our nations benefit, this will become a pillar of peace and stability,” he said.
To enhance economic competitiveness, the President stated that the government is continuously carrying out deregulation and simplification of procedures, including eliminating regulations deemed no longer relevant.
As a concrete step, the government has also formed a special task force for debottlenecking, tasked with handling investment obstacles quickly and directly.
“This task force has proven effective. We have resolved many issues because we go straight to the core,” he asserted.
Prabowo even opened direct communication channels for investors facing on-the-ground challenges.
“If you have problems, you can complain directly to me. You can complain directly to me. Through your ambassador, through your representatives, through MITI or JETRO or whatever, Keidanren, I am willing to receive complaints,” he continued.
The President also emphasised his results-oriented leadership approach that prioritises quick and effective action. He stated that a president in the modern era must act like a responsive CEO to various issues.
In addition, Prabowo highlighted the importance of speed in decision-making amid constantly changing global dynamics.
According to him, solid teamwork is key to producing quick and accurate decisions, including in the Indonesia-Japan partnership.
“If there is good teamwork, if the best minds join together and work collaboratively, we will achieve the best results quickly. So, the Japan-Indonesia partnership, getting the best minds from both sides, working together, we can achieve good things very quickly. I believe we must work together. We have worked together,” he explained.
Prabowo welcomed the enhancement of the Indonesia-Japan economic partnership as a strategic opportunity to drive mutual growth.
He assessed that the current momentum is the right time to deepen cooperation between the two countries in various sectors.
“The enhancement of the Indonesia-Japan economic partnership agreement will open new opportunities. This is the right time to deepen our cooperation. We are ready and we want to move forward. We are ready to work quickly and we welcome you. If you want to come to Indonesia, we are ready to collaborate with you,” he concluded.
The forum serves as an important platform for Indonesia to reaffirm its commitment to accelerating economic reform while strengthening its strategic partnership with Japan.
