Presence of US Military Bases Triggers Attacks Between Iran and Kuwait
The Kuwaiti government stated on Wednesday (3/6) that Iranian attacks resulted in one death, several injuries, and damage to essential facilities, including diplomatic missions. Kuwait also asserted its ‘right’ to take responsive measures following the strikes.
In its statement, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned what it described as ‘brutal and continuous’ Iranian attacks carried out using ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The ministry noted that the latest attacks, occurring in the early hours of Wednesday, targeted ‘civilian and vital’ facilities, including Kuwait International Airport.
According to the ministry, the strikes caused one fatality, numerous injuries, and damage to critical infrastructure and diplomatic missions. Kuwait emphasised that the nation possesses the ‘full and inherent right’ to take necessary measures in response to these attacks in accordance with international law.
The ministry also noted that Iran has accused Kuwait and Bahrain of involvement in the incidents. Satellite imagery analysis suggests that 228 US military structures and equipment in the Middle East have been destroyed by Iranian strikes, a figure significantly higher than official reports.
Meanwhile, the Iranian government is preparing funeral ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to be held in the three major cities of Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad. Military escalation between the US and Iran has intensified following missile attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and Bahrain, threatening regional diplomacy and ceasefire processes. Global oil prices rose by 1 per cent today, triggered by the heating tensions between Iran and the US, following US actions against ships violating the Iranian port blockade. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that US airbases were primary targets of Iranian retaliatory strikes on Thursday (28/5) following US military operations in Iranian territory.
