Presence at NU Proves Prabowo's Commitment to Preserving Unity and the Ummah
The identity of NU is a religious organisation, not a political one.
The Chairman of PASPROBO, Saiful Chaniago, expressed high appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto’s presence at Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) activities. This presence is regarded as a demonstration of the Head of State’s sensitivity towards the largest Muslim community in Indonesia. Saiful stated that the President’s presence within the NU environment is not merely ceremonial, but serves as a symbol of closeness, respect, and the government’s commitment to maintaining harmony between the state and religious organisations.
“This is the President’s sensitivity towards a vast community. NU is a great home for Muslims and simultaneously a guardian of national values. President Prabowo’s presence shows that the state is present and appreciates the role of NU,” Saiful said on Tuesday.
According to Saiful, amidst current national challenges, synergy between the government and NU is key to maintaining unity, tolerance, and the spirit of religious moderation. President Prabowo is believed to fully understand NU’s strategic role in maintaining national social and political stability.
PASPROBO also assessed that the President’s steps align with the spirit of ‘Asta Cita’, particularly in strengthening the Pancasila ideology and tightening communal harmony. His presence at NU sends a message that the government is not averse to religious organisations, but rather views them as strategic partners in development.
Saiful added that PASPROBO, as a volunteer group supporting the President, will continue to oversee policies that favour the people and the community, including programmes directly involving pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), education, and the community’s economy. Ultimately, PASPROBO hopes that President Prabowo’s presence at NU can provide new energy for strengthening national identity.
“We believe that by embracing the community, the government will become even stronger in building Indonesia,” Saiful concluded.
In related developments, President Prabowo Subianto defended his cabinet structure, which some have deemed bloated, by comparing the population ratio and the number of ministers to that of Timor-Leste. Additionally, the President officially received the Kartanu from PBNU during the closing of the 35th NU Muktamar in Jombang, fulfilling his promise to attend.
The newly elected Chairman of PBNU, KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz (Gus Kikin), aims to complete the PBNU management structure for the 2026-2031 term within one month to optimise organisational work. Haedar expressed hope that the PBNU leadership resulting from the 35th Muktamar can further strengthen brotherhood and cooperation with all community organisations.
Furthermore, President Prabowo stated that in the last two years, the government has closed 290 State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) that were not profitable. He also requested that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology prioritise disaster research and mitigation on campuses, particularly in disaster-prone areas.
