The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) is preparing artificial intelligence (AI)-based training for 3,100 young people in Padang City and its surroundings. The programme is designed to support the acceleration of economic recovery through improving community competencies in West Sumatra (Sumbar). This was stated by the Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli during the inauguration of a borehole at the Grand Mosque of Balai Gadang in Padang City, Sumbar, on Thursday (14/5/2026). Yassierli explained that the quota of 3,100 participants represents the first phase of recipients for Kemnaker’s AI-based digital training access. Participants will gain access to an AI-based learning platform that provides various competency development materials, ranging from personal development, entrepreneurship, to non-technical skills and other abilities required in the workforce. On that occasion, Yassierli also conveyed that Kemnaker has established service posts for the community for three months at the Padang Vocational Training and Productivity Centre (BPVP) when Sumbar was hit by floods and landslides. In addition to emergency services, Kemnaker has channelled recovery programmes to the West Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov) worth Rp 30.3 billion through various manpower programmes, such as the Padat Karya programme and Independent Workers (TKM).
