Prepare for a New War: China and North Korea Unite Forces

The North Korean government and China are holding a meeting to form cross-border cooperation that eliminates the single power of several countries.

In a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday (10/4) local time in Pyongyang, North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un expressed support for China’s efforts to build a “multipolar world” and called for deeper relations between the two allied parties.

During yesterday’s meeting, Kim said his government would fully support China’s efforts to achieve territorial integrity based on the “one China” principle, according to North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). That principle refers to Beijing’s official position that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory.

Kim also outlined North Korea’s positions on unspecified regional and international issues. He described current global problems as “common interests” and assured that developing sustainable relations between the two countries is more important in the current geopolitical environment, KCNA said, as reported by Channel News Asia on Saturday (10/4/2026).

Meanwhile, during his two-day visit to North Korea, Wang said relations between the two countries have entered a “new phase” following last year’s summit meeting between Kim and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“In the face of a turbulent and complex international situation, China and North Korea must further strengthen communication and coordination on major international and regional affairs,” Wang told Kim, according to a statement from China’s Foreign Ministry.

The Chinese diplomat also said China is willing to strengthen strategic exchanges and interactions to promote practical cooperation with North Korea.

By embracing the idea of a “new Cold War” and “multipolarisation,” Kim has sought to break out of international isolation and pursue a more assertive foreign policy by expanding ties with governments engaged in confrontation with the United States.

Although Russia has been Kim’s top foreign policy priority in recent years, with the dispatch of thousands of troops and large arms shipments to support its war against Ukraine, he has also maintained close relations with China, North Korea’s traditional main ally and vital economic lifeline.

Kim joined Russian President Vladimir Putin at the World War II ceremony in Beijing in September and held his first summit with Xi Jinping in six years, steps that support his efforts to portray North Korea as part of a united front against Washington.

North Korea and China resumed direct flights and passenger train services last month, which had been suspended since the early COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Wang arrived in Pyongyang on Thursday for his first visit to North Korea in seven years. Previously, he met with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Sun Hui and discussed ways to facilitate further cooperation and exchanges, as well as holding “in-depth” talks on international issues, according to government media from both countries.

Government media did not mention whether Wang and North Korean officials discussed issues related to the US or the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Wang’s visit to North Korea took place ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing for a rescheduled summit with Xi Jinping in May. Some South Korean officials have expressed hope that the Trump-Xi meeting could provide diplomatic opportunities with Pyongyang.

Kim has suspended all meaningful dialogue with the US and South Korea since the collapse of diplomacy with Trump in 2019 during the American president’s first term.

Since then, Kim has adopted a hardline stance towards South Korea, which he now defines as his “most hostile enemy,” and has rejected US offers to resume talks, calling on Washington to drop its demand for North Korea’s denuclearisation as a prerequisite.
