YOGYAKARTA — Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security, General (Retired) Djamari Chaniago, inspected transport preparedness at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) and Yogyakarta’s Tugu Station. The visit was undertaken to ensure that passenger services and security during the Lebaran holiday exodus and return flows in the Special Region of Yogyakarta proceed smoothly and safely.

Djamari stated that all public service elements must prioritise the interests of the public, particularly during the Lebaran mudik season, which is predicted to experience increased mobility. During his visit to YIA, Djamari requested that airport services be provided and prepared optimally, and specifically asked that YIA be ready to operate 24 hours daily if airlines request additional flight capacity.

According to him, coordination between the airport and airlines must be maintained continuously to ensure passenger services remain excellent, including the dissemination of information to the public.

“The critical issue is that if any flight is delayed, that information must reach people quickly. When the aircraft will depart or whether there is a replacement, the public must know,” said Djamari on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

In addition to the airport, Djamari also inspected service preparedness at Yogyakarta Station. On that occasion, he reminded public service workers that they bear significant responsibility, including continuing to work during the holiday period. For this reason, he requested that staff duties be assigned carefully to avoid exhaustion or fatigue that could potentially trigger accidents.

“If that happens, it will cause accidents and that could escalate into something larger, as though our work, which is so good, becomes worthless simply because of one small accident,” he said.
