Preparations for Husein Sastranegara Airport Reactivation Accelerated
PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero), operating as InJourney Airports, is accelerating the optimisation of Husein Sastranegara Airport. The airport, located in Bandung, West Java, is being prepared to serve scheduled domestic and international commercial air transport operations using both jet and propeller aircraft.
Regional CEO of InJourney Airports Regional I, I Wayan Darma, stated that various preparatory works are currently underway, focusing on strengthening safety, security, and supporting infrastructure to ensure all operational requirements meet applicable aviation standards and regulations. “All stages of preparation are being carried out in phases through intensive coordination with regulators, the regional government, the Indonesian Air Force, and all stakeholders within the airport environment,” Wayan said on Friday, 3 July 2026.
InJourney is accelerating preparations with an emphasis on safety, security, service, and regulatory compliance, so that once operations are expanded, all facilities and services will meet the required standards. One primary focus is enhancing aviation safety by increasing the capacity of the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) unit. In line with the planned upgrade of the airport’s service classification, InJourney Airports has added ARFF vehicles to ensure firefighting and rescue capacity meets the operational category required to support jet aircraft operations.
Beyond facility reinforcement, ARFF personnel readiness is being improved through organisational adjustments, training, and the fulfilment of operational standards to enable rapid response in any airside emergency. In the area of aviation security, InJourney Airports is also strengthening the security system at Husein Sastranegara Airport by increasing the number of Aviation Security (Avsec) personnel to support airport operations. This reinforcement is supported by the optimisation of various security screening facilities, including X-ray machines, walkthrough metal detectors, handheld metal detectors, CCTV systems, and other security equipment in accordance with civil aviation security standards.
General Manager of Husein Sastranegara Airport, Granito W. Hindrawan, explained that besides safety and security aspects, various infrastructure improvement works are being carried out in stages to enhance the readiness of operational facilities and passenger services. “We continue to make various adjustments and improvements to airport facilities so that all infrastructure is ready to support operations as needed,” Granito said. He noted that this process is conducted through coordination and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure all work proceeds in an integrated manner.
The improvements include upgrading the quality of a number of supporting infrastructure facilities in the airport area, both airside and landside. In its implementation, InJourney Airports is also collaborating with the Ministry of Transportation, the West Java Provincial Government, the Bandung City Government, and the Indonesian Air Force to support improved accessibility, the arrangement of the area surrounding the airport, and other supporting infrastructure that forms part of the Husein Sastranegara Airport service ecosystem. “This cross-agency synergy is expected to deliver operational readiness that not only meets aviation safety and security standards but also enhances comfort and ease of access for the public,” Granito added.
With this operational optimisation, Husein Sastranegara Airport will be able to serve non-scheduled domestic and international commercial air transport, as well as domestic and international non-commercial air transport. Currently, the airport’s operations are limited to serving scheduled domestic commercial air transport using propeller aircraft for intra-Java routes.
