Premium Pet Food Segment Still Dominated by Foreign Brands
The premium cat food segment in Indonesia continues to face challenges due to the dominance of foreign brands and producers. This situation has prompted domestic entrepreneurs to introduce alternative products with nutritional standards designed for various feline needs and conditions.
PT Evo Continental Trade (EVOCAT), part of the EVO Group, identified this opportunity through the development of Cat’s Favour, a special care wet food product introduced at the Indonesia International Pet Expo (IIPE) 2026 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City, Tangerang.
President Director of PT Evo Continental Trade, Hendra Gunawan, stated that the product development is aimed at expanding premium food options in the domestic market, while simultaneously addressing pet owners’ needs for products with appropriate nutritional content.
“IIPE 2026 serves as a momentum for us to present Cat’s Favour as a nutritionally developed food following the needs of cats. We want to complete the market in the premium food segment so that high-quality food is not always synonymous with expensive prices,” said Hendra.
According to him, nutritional requirements for cats must be adjusted based on age and health conditions. Consequently, Cat’s Favour has been developed in eight variants: Hair & Skin, Urinary, Mother & Baby, Digestive, Hairball, Senior Care 11+, CarniCare, and Immune System.
The product utilises a grain-free formulation, without artificial colours or preservatives, and contains taurine. EVOCAT noted that its product meets the criteria for complete and balanced nutrition. The nutritional content used is tailored to the function of each variant, including animal protein, Omega-3, Omega-6, DHA, MOS, FOS, glucosamine, chondroitin, β-glucan, taurine, and L-carnitine.
Addressing nutritional needs involves not only product choice but also the understanding of pet owners regarding feeding requirements based on the age and health status of the cat. During the IIPE 202<0xC2>6 event, EVOCAT also conducted educational sessions alongside practitioners and cat lover communities regarding feline care and health standards.
This activity also involved students from the faculty of veterinary medicine. According to the company, the involvement of students is part of a human resource development programme within the pet care sector.
In addition to pet food, EVOCAT is developing bentonite-based cat litter products under the brands Giant Panda and Oyen’s Litter. These products target the daily maintenance needs of cat owners.
Cat’s Favour will subsequently be marketed through partner pet shop networks and official sales channels.
