Prejudice against TNI

Prejudice against TNI

From Koran Tempo

The murder of Theys, chairman of the Papuan Council Presidium
(PDP) has been widely reported in the mass media, at home and
abroad, with the accusing finger generally being pointed at some
members of the Indonesian military (TNI).

That some TNI members may be involved in this murder is
economically, rather than politically, motivated. Political
motivation is more related to the internal affairs of PDP.

On this score, even Theys' son, Boy Eluay, has stressed that
his father's murder carried a strong economic motivation. Theys,
said Boy, had a relationship with a number of logging companies
in Papua. These companies often supported Theys in a variety of
ways in exchange for his help. Thanks to Theys' help, some
logging companies, such as You Lim Sari and Jayanti Group, were
revived.

At this point allow me to say that the acute economic crisis
has made us easily show our prejudice against anything that TNI
members have done. We must not blame them for any crime until a
court of law says so. We must realize that many attempts are now
being made to cause the Republic of Indonesia to disintegrate.
