According to detikSumut on Wednesday (13/5/2026), the video shows the woman being carried on a stretcher made from a single bamboo pole. Dozens of villagers took turns carrying her along the mountainous road. Village health worker Samsul Bahri Sihombing, who checked on the pregnant woman’s condition, recounted the incident. The villagers transported the pregnant woman to the hospital in Sipirok, the capital of Tapanuli Selatan Regency. Initially, Samsul was asked by the villagers to assess the woman’s condition. He set off on Friday (8/5) afternoon and arrived at 8:00 PM by foot. “I received the phone call, so on Friday afternoon I headed there and arrived after Maghrib prayer, around 8 PM. Upon checking, in my opinion, the baby inside the womb had already died,” said Samsul Bahri Sihombing when contacted on Monday (11/5/2026). He recommended taking her to the hospital in Sipirok for surgery. The villagers then departed on Saturday (9/5) morning, carrying the pregnant woman on foot for about 30 kilometres to Hasahatan in Sipirok Subdistrict to catch a vehicle to the hospital. “That’s why I advised on Saturday the 9th to take her to the hospital. So they carried her, using a stretcher, all together. The journey took about seven hours covering 30 kilometres to reach Hasahatan Hamlet, Sipirok Subdistrict, to get a car,” he explained. The group arrived at the hospital on Saturday (9/5) afternoon, and the surgery was performed the next day. North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution offered condolences regarding the incident, stating he would check the infrastructure in the area. “We from the province extend our condolences for this situation, and it was reported that the child had already passed away in the hospital,” said Bobby Nasution.
